We (I was travelling with my husband, Mark, and daughter, her husband, his brother, and two small children age 1 and 2) had a family pool villa reserved with views over the ocean. The villa was impressive and Mark and I were given the large master bedroom (it was his birthday). It was designed to incorporate the bathroom and ran the whole length of the upper level with views over the ocean. There was a large oval concrete bath set in the middle of the room and two showers open to the elements.
Downstairs there was another bedroom with ensuite bathroom and large living room with bar and fridge. Beyond the full length windows was a small garden enclosed by a high hedge and big solid gates and our own small private swimming pool.
We had arrived in the dry season which runs from December to May, with the hottest months being April and May. July through to September are dominated by the monsoons and have a very high rainfall. There is excellent air conditioning and fans to keep cool. I certainly needed that relief as the heat is exacerbated by the extremely high humidity. The early mornings and evenings were extremely pleasant and the large thatched restaurant organised tables to be set up on the beach and along the small jetty for those with romance in mind. There is also a large verandah where most people dined.

The food is generally very good focussing on seafood, which is the speciality of the Island, particularly the prawns. The menu showcases local Vietnamese specialities as well as western foods unfortunately there is extremely limited choices for vegetarians (which two of our party were) and the children's menu is disappointing and unoriginal. There is a very good breakfast buffet every morning and varying buffets in the evening but we always chose from the a la carte, I find I cannot eat enough of the buffets to justify the cost.
We spent the majority of the weekend relaxing in the infinity pool which is particularly inviting in the late afternoon with the sun going down over the horizon but the beach was a great hit with the children, the crystal clear warm water and the small waves lapping over the clean yellow sand kept them busy for hours. We went canoeing, hired the catamaran, went scuba diving. The beach has been netted to keep out the jellyfish that abound in the warm waters

Phu Quoc is famous for its extremely good fish sauce sourced from the quantities of anchovy that are found around the island and black pepper which is grown in the interior of the island. There is also a pearl farm where a beautiful array of locally produced jewellery is available for viewing and sale. If you want to eat outside the resort there are also some very good local seafood restaurants in the local town at a very minimal price and taxis are easy and cheap to hire to get to all the local attractions.
A very relaxing weekend.
